Man Ray was inspired by cubism and expressionism but later on he developed a style that leaned towards Dadaism. He took everyday object (scissors, buttons, string...) and placed them in an interesting way and made photograms with them. I like the way he created an abstract form out of realistic objects by seeing only the outline without any detail. The photograms are also interesting because there is a lot of negative space and the white objects are really striking and in your face due to the simplicity of using only black and white in terms of colour. I like the way Ray experimented and in the first photogram with the springy object, you can see a sort of a cone shaped cone but it is slightly blurred in the background. Some objects tend to be sharp and clear, but the combination makes them special. |
