My passion for protecting our environment and animals inspired my exhibition. I used swans as an example. They are so magnificent and majestic, yet fragile and innocent. Man is unable to enjoy the beauty of these creatures and has to intervene which in most some cases, destroys their way of living. The scrunched up piece of paper and plastic represents rubbish that people carelessly leave for the animals to encounter. The masking tape that is surrounding the swans is showing that we trap animals in small areas due to humans dirty habit; greediness. Ripped up pieces of paper reminded me of bullet-holes while at the same time I formed them into looking like a flock of swans gliding through a pond. The cones represent the bodies of the swans. They are rapped with masking tape which says that if we work together, we can help the animals instead of harming them.
DOCUMENTING THE PROCESS
I decided to hold my exhibition in the outdoors because it gives a more natural vibe and there is a lot of space which there should be for the animals. I invited my parents to my exhibition because they understand my passion for nature and also have love for animals. I told them to look at the gallery and say the first word that they think of. This would let me know if they understood my vision, even though it is presented in an abstract way. I was interested in what they saw before I explained my idea because photography could be about how you personally interpret something. At first glance, my mum said she can see music being transformed into a physical state, whereas the cones would represent the instruments and the scrunched up paper would portray the mood of the music. I after told my mum my idea and she soon saw what i did but i didn't imply her thoughts were wrong, because my exhibition is about everyone making up their own story from what they see.
