Here is my most successful negative print out. These are random found negatives and it would mean nothing if i erased their faces so i decided to manipulate the original photograph. I like the way the faces are scratched out because it makes us observe the body language and makes us create our own stories instead of just reading their facial expressions and interpreting it one way. The negative itself looks suspicious because you don't know if the people behind the short lady are holding her back and protecting her as if she can't protect herself, or if they are just expressing love by physical touch. But being faceless adds more mystery because by seeing their facial expression we would be able to guess between if it is love of protection. Overall, i like the focus that has been adjusted and i found that using a pink filter would make the image clearer. The light sensitive paper needed only 3 seconds under the enlarger in order to come out with an effective result.

As well as for the photograph above, I used a pink filter and i exposed the photographic paper under the light for 3 seconds.
When i put the photographic paper in the developing chemical, I was in control of how much i wanted the photo to be developed. It took 1-2 minutes in the developer and roughly the same amount in the stopper and fixer to get this image. I like the scratches and the various lines on the photo, as well as the shapes i cut out and placed in a particular way. I decided to cut out triangles and place them in their original positions but leave a slight gap between them. This reminded me of a puzzle and it made sense because the image is puzzling itself. I don't know what is happening beyond the edges of the photograph; the car might have crashed or the car might have successfully just driven out of a puddle of mud. It is up to the viewer to decide what is going on in the picture. |
